Why the names

Hikari is Japanese for light. Kintsugi is the practice of repairing broken pottery with gold, so that the repair becomes the most beautiful part of the object rather than something to hide.

How to run it

Morning: cleanse, two to four pumps of Hikari on damp skin, moisturizer, then SPF 30 or higher.

Night: cleanse, let skin dry fully, three to four drops of Kintsugi, then moisturizer.

Start Kintsugi at two to three nights a week and build up over the first month. Hikari can be used every day from day one. Do not layer the two in the same session.

Who this is for

Questions people actually ask

Can I just use one of them twice a day?
No. Retinol is degraded by sunlight and does nothing under SPF, so Kintsugi in the morning is wasted. Hikari at night is fine, it simply is not doing the renewal job that a night step should be doing.

Do I still need a moisturizer?
Yes. Both of these are water-based serums, not creams. They go on first and a moisturizer seals them in. If you use one of our tallow creams, that is the layer on top.

How long does the pair last?
Hikari runs about six to eight weeks at twice daily. Kintsugi runs about three months at nightly use. They will not finish together, which is normal.

When will I see anything?
Hydration and surface smoothness in days. Texture and tone from the retinol on the skin's own turnover cycle, so four to twelve weeks. Anyone promising faster than that is selling you something else.

Can I add other actives?
Vitamin C in the morning before Hikari, niacinamide at night after Kintsugi. Do not add exfoliating acids on the same nights you use Kintsugi.
